Final Chapter: The Last Mars

Another day in the Mars household, another drama. This is only my second burglary in ten generations, but luckily I am prepared for such occasions.



Not long after the burglar alarm went off the policewoman appeared for a little rough and tumble, of the non-sexual non-fun kind. But it's not all on her, as there be strapping young lads in the Mars household who can come to the rescue of damsels in distress...



Ah, when they're not too busy staring at their shiny new wedding rings, of course.



Yes, Zephyr and Axel Mars are newlyweds, and it's a time of love and passion... right?
Not in the case of this happy couple...



Their relationship had always been strained and Axel never quite knew why. He loved Zephyr and he thought she loved him, but she kept pushing him away and that couldn't be good.



The whole experience left Axel with so many questions and so much frustration. He'd spend a couple of hours pounding it out at the gym, but it was only a temporary fix.



Zephyr meanwhile was dealing with issues of her own. She'd just gotten the news that her father Bronx had died and, although she'd never been that close to him, the news was still sad.



At least Zephyr had friends to turn to in times of crisis. Her BFF Ruby could always be relied on for comfort, and Zephyr knew spending time with her would be a great distraction.



Being with Ruby was always so easy; so simple. In her relationship with Axel, Zephyr always felt as if she was constantly on parade- always trying to be the perfect wife, to outside eyes. With Ruby she could just relax, and be herself.



Ruby was faring a little better in her personal life, and after listening to Zeph's problems she attempted to lighten the mood a little with news of her recent engagement to her long-term girlfriend Violetta. Zephyr smiled and congratulated her, but the news burned like acid.



That night in the bedroom, Axel once again played the merry dance of lust and rejection. He and Zephyr had only been together the one time- on their wedding night- and after that Zephyr had just kept as far away from naked as possible.



Axel didn't understand. They were newlyweds for god's sake, they were supposed to be all over each other. Axel suspected there was more going on in Zephyr's mind than she was willing to let on, but he wasn't sure he wanted to know what it was.



As time went on Zephyr started going to bed later and later, keen to avoid any more confrontation and hurt looks. Shunning her husband was cruel she knew, but Zephyr just couldn't help herself, and as she sat with Ruby she regarded her with admiration. Here was a girl who knew exactly who she was, and what she wanted. Zephyr could only hope to be that lucky.



The following night it was Axel's birthday, and time for him to become an Adult.



Being grown up could only mean one thing- settling down and having kids- and with a Family Oriented guy like Axel this was all the more crucial. Somehow though, he suspected that his wishes would not easily be granted.



That's not to say he wasn't willing to try though. Axel did everything he could to make his wife happy, he even took on her brother Zenith when he bullied Zeph for the hundredth time, but although she appreciated her husband's efforts, Zephyr did not soften.



It was a Saturday when Axel realised the truth they'd both been hiding from for so long. Zephyr was outside playing with Ruby, and as Axel watched them he saw how effortless their relationship was. The joy on Zephyr's face was so blinding but so clear. Why didn't they have that?
And then he knew.



The avoidance, the awkward way she fought all intimacy... it was so obvious. Zephyr was lying to herself; to everyone, and it was time to stop. Axel would make her stop, even if it broke his heart.



Still, there was that part of him, that lost shadow that just wanted to reach out for her and to have her reach back. He knew it would never happen though. He knew she was gay.



Of course, now that he knew there was just the matter of getting Zephyr to admit it to herself. She'd always had this idea of what a marriage should be- her mother had had such strong values, and Zephyr had felt obliged to carry them on after her death. Being gay, not wanting to settle down and have kids, it just didn't fit into the plan so Zephyr had discarded it. And so, when Axel said those three little words, Zeph reacted with hostility. In truth she was just so embarrassed.



They talked long into the night, and Zephyr was devastated because Axel was just so kind about the whole thing. She knew he was hurting, but the fact that he loved her so much meant he just wanted to help her. Zephyr didn't think she'd ever be able to forgive herself for doing this to him.



In the early hours of the morning it was done. By then there was nothing else to say. Axel and Zephyr's marriage was over, and they'd just have to learn to be okay with that.



Axel moved out that same night.



After a few days of just being by herself and trying to figure things out, Zephyr eventually felt ready to be part of society again. She called up her sister Freya to ask her advice on how one pursues the woman they love, but she wasn't expecting what came next...



Ruby was getting married. Yes, Zeph had known that she was engaged, but now there was an official date set, and it was soon. When Freya told her she'd smiled, but in truth Zephyr felt like she'd just been punched. She wanted to cry. All was lost.



That night, Zephyr celebrated her birthday. She'd never felt more alone.



A few days later Zephyr went over to Freya's house. She'd heard Freya's mother Blaze had just died so she wanted to show her support, but it turned out that perhaps Freya had all the support she needed already...



Hmm...



So just what is Axel doing at Freya's house? Well, maybe the massive hand in the face is a bit of a clue.



Yes, after a whirlwind romance Axel and Freya have only gone and gotten themselves married haven't they? It's kind of nice- they made a sweet couple don't cha think?
On seeing her ex-husband and her half-sister so happy like that, Zephyr knew what she had to do. She reasoned she could take the rejection if it came, but she couldn't take never knowing.



That night, Zephyr went to bed full of resolve and determination. In the morning she overslept.
Ruby and Violetta's wedding was due to start in twenty minutes, and Zephyr was running out of time.



Across town, friends and family gathered for the happy event.



As Ruby stood hand in hand with Violetta she felt a wave of nerves rise up inside of her. She was happy to be getting married, but she couldn't help but think about what could have been.



Little did Ruby know, what could have been was close to becoming a reality, in fact it was racing through the door at that very moment.



As Ruby opened her mouth to begin her vows she saw something that took her breath away. Zephyr was standing in front of her, and she was dying to know what it meant.



She didn't have long to wait, because in a heartbeat Zephyr was telling her- telling her everything. She wanted her. She loved her. She always had.



Axel and Freya watched as one person's life fell apart, and two others really began. For Axel it could have been a terrible moment, the moment when his ex-wife and his sister declared their feelings for each other. Somehow though, with his gorgeous new wife by his side, all that didn't matter, and he could do nothing but be happy for them.







Later that night, when all had been said and done, Ruby and Zephyr found time to finally be alone.



Zephyr was nervous- it was her first time being with someone she really cared about- but at Ruby's touch she knew everything was going to be okay. At last.







In the time that followed Ruby and Zephyr became just like any other couple, and it was bliss.



Sure they got some strange looks from time to time, after all not everyone is open-minded, but with Ruby by her side Zephyr was secure enough not to care.



Speaking of which... one night, after a evening out at the cinema together, Ruby and Zeph were caught up in passion and so did some snogging, as you do.
Unfortunately, someone was watching, and he was not happy.



Zenith had never been kind to Zephyr, in fact he had been downright awful, and after seeing her happy with her new girlfriend he couldn't resist trying to make her life a little bit of hell.



Ruby placed her hand on Zephyr's arm and tried to comfort her love, but Zephyr was gone. It was too much. For too long she'd put up with this shit, and now enough was enough. Zephyr wasn't afraid of Zen anymore.



Vindication/satisfaction .

Yay for Zephyr ^_^



Being with Ruby was like finding the answer to the meaning of life. Zephyr was so happy, so safe, and it made her feel like she could do anything. For every second they were together, Zephyr was truly grateful.







Even though their life was each other, Ruby and Zeph made sure they had time for their friends too. Freya and Axel were a regular feature at the Mars house, and they were about to be joined by another...



Yes, Freya is preggers. Yay! As Zephyr had by now reached the top of the medical career she was able to examine Freya, and she determined that she was having a girl. Wheeee!



Ah, life for the Mars household and their friends was indeed excellent, but that didn't mean there wasn't room for improvement...



Zephyr had been thinking about it for a while, and one night as she sat by the fire pit with the love of her life, she decided the timing was perfect.



Looking into Ruby's eyes, Zephyr sought to find the words.



And then she proposed.



Ruby said yes- how could she not? XD



Not one for large crowds and being the center of attention, Zephyr knew that she just wanted the wedding to be a small affair, and Ruby agreed. The event took place at Simhenge, at night, with the stars as the only witnesses.



Bride and bride held hands, said their vows, said 'I do'.



And that was it- they were wife and wife :D



Not long after the wedding, Ruby and Zeph went round to the Weston's house to see Freya and Axel, and to see the baby.



And here she is! Her name is Allune, and she looks a lot like her dad.



Of course, Zephyr has the Dislikes Children trait, so naturally she wasn't too thrilled at being in the same room as the offspring, but never mind.



Besides, how can you not love this face?! ^.^



A few days later Freya was pregnant again, as I discovered when she vommed all over Zephyr's driveway. Filthy mare...



Axel and Freya spent a lot of time at the Mars's during her pregnancy, and spent most of it dancing up a storm.



Meanwhile, Ruby got to know her niece.



The subject of children had of course come up for Ruby and Zephyr before, and Ruby wasn't afraid to admit that she quite wanted to be a mother someday.



Regardless, when she'd married Zephyr she'd known that would never happen, and she was okay with it. She had a beautiful wife, a cute niece and another on the way. What more could she ask for?



In time said niece was born, and naturally I sent the Mars gals round to investigate matters. The little girl is called Alexis, and though you can't tell from this picture she has Indiana's eyes, for some strange reason. Also, Allune had aged into a child.



As she'd watched her nieces grow time had slowly ran out for Ruby. Before long it was time for her birthday, and her descent into elderhood.



Ah, she doesn't look too bad at least.



A few days later it was the beautiful Zephyr's turn too. CRY CRY!



Again, not a bad looking oldy.



And they still make an adorable couple :)



Zephyr and Ruby's winter years were spent pleasantly. Both continued to work, and in their spare time they skilled.



More often than not the couple could be found at the Westons' house visiting their friends and their nieces.



And of course the lovers remained, well, lovey.



In time Allune and Alexis aged up, and aren't they just fricking amazing?
Sorry, I mega-hearts them. Look at that cheesy grin on Lexi's face, isn't it wicked?



Anyways. It was good that the girls aged up, because before long there was no time left for Ruby.



Grim came, Zephyr and the girls mourned.



Oh, and Zeph fainted, as she does. Only once this time though, so that's an improvement.



When she came round everyone was gone, and Zephyr was completely alone. It hit her then- the heartache. The love of her life had just died and she was leftovers. It wasn't a good feeling, but luckily for Zeph it wouldn't last long.



Two days later the final Mars died. In was the end of an era- the end of a bloodline.
Rest in peace Zephyr.



And there you have it. Ten generations full of marriage, babies, ghosts, death, betrayal, murder, and all that good stuff. I hope you've enjoyed the ride.
