Chapter 26: A Life Anew

Following their transition into Young Adults and their subsequent marriage, Noah and Adelaide should have had a number of big life decisions to make. But they didn't. Living in poverty with only each other for family their choices were limited. It was really all about survival.

Noah had a part-time job at the local bookstore but topped up his earnings with fish.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I don't mean literally- fish as currency : p
His fishing skill was now at level 6 so he was able to catch and sell a number of fish each day.

Adelaide got herself a full-time job at the science lab, and in her freetime she continued to work on the garden that she and Noah had made.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Of course, without a sink or dishwasher in sight the surroundings began to turn a little bit funky...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Still, the newlyweds were happy. They had lived in isolation for so long now that it had become normal to them. Being homeless was home enough.

Adelaide hadn't seen her brother Laurent since she had grown up, so one day she arranged to meet him in the park.

I was a tad startled by Laurent turning up with a kid in tow, but she's not his. Actually, she's Jenna's son's daughter 0_0 So that makes the girl Adelaide's cousin's child... Yeah, tis confusing.

The relationship Adelaide shared with her brother was still relatively new, given that they didn't meet until they were teens. All the same, the siblings shared a bond that brought them together, but Adelaide remained troubled. Laurent knew nothing of their mother, and Adelaide didn't know what to tell him.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
What would be the good in telling him about Dahlia- of letting that poison into his life? What peace could come from knowing about the mother that neglected you? No, Laurent seemed so happy, and there was no reason to spoil it.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Adelaide decided to bear the burden of their secret alone. Dahlia's mistakes were in the past and the future was what mattered; Noah and Laurent were what mattered. It was time for them to meet.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Adelaide couldn't help but smile as she saw her husband and her brother meet for the first time. Through sheer will and determination alone, Adelaide had changed her life from bitter loneliness to bliss.

That day, Adelaide invited Laurent back to her dump slash home to visit, and it was there I discovered he had the Insane trait.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Maybe he inherited it from Dahlia...

With her brother back in her life Adelaide was content, but unfortunately the same could not be said for Noah. He hadn't seen his parents since he had run away but he thought about them daily.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
When he was younger there was always the worry that they would stop him from seeing Adelaide if he went home, but that wasn't the case anymore. Noah and Adelaide were married and nothing but their own actions would be able to seperate them. Therefore, it was time return home.

After the short walk into town the couple arrived at the doorstep of Noah's parents' house. Tentatively, he approached the door and rang the bell.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Noah's mother Clara greeted the nervous duo she found on the doorstep and, after some early surprise, she invited them inside.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Adelaide felt wary to intrude. She took a seat and watched nervously, praying that the encounter would go well.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Luckily it did : )
Clara could have been mad, she could have been upset, but all that didn't matter. Just seeing her son again was more important than anger, and with one simple hug all the hurt went away.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Clara was even happy to see Adelaide. In truth she had never had anything against the girl- it had been Dahlia that had caused the tension.

Overjoyed at seeing his mother, Noah couldn't wait to continue the reunion and so asked where his father was. But the reply he received was not what he was expecting, and it definitely dampened his mood...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
It turns out his parents had got a divorce : (
Noah felt a cold stab of guilt hit him when he heard those words. Had his choice to run away destroyed his parents' relationship? Noah and Adelaide headed over to his dad's new house to investigate further.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
The house was bare, depressing, and had less life in it than the junkyard where they lived.
Yep, guilt definitely rising now...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Noah's father Ross was visibly upset when they arrived, and Noah didn't know whether it was because of his break-up or because he was seeing his son again.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Either way, Noah tried to make the best of the situation. He realised his parents were grown adults- they were the architects of their own lives and, although his choices may have affected them, ultimately it was their decision to divorce. Besides, there was nothing he could do to change it now, he could only work on rebuilding his relationship with them.

Whilst he was at the house, Noah got to meet his sister for the first time. Her name was Antonia, and she had been born not long after Noah and Adelaide had ran away.

After returning home later that night, Noah was able to ease into sleep with no reservations. For the first time in a while he slept feeling secure, happy to be back in touch with his family.

That night Dahlia died. Adelaide read about it in the morning paper. She waited for the tears to come- the mourning- but it never arrived. There was a poignant sadness that resonated slightly, but it wasn't enough to cause distress. Adelaide's mother was in her past, and now she was in the ground too.

Later that day, Adelaide went back to place she had once called home. Her mother had died alone in her big empty house, and this meant that her estate would be divided between her relatives. Adelaide received her inheritance, and she was no longer poor.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
She never even thought about returning to that desolate place. No, a new life called for a new house.
Adelaide and Noah had lived in the dump for so long now that it was almost sad to leave it, but they knew they couldn't have stayed there forever. After all, it wouldn't be the right environment to raise a family.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
With no belongings to their name, the Mars family had no baggage to take with them as they moved. Before long they arrived at a new plot of land, just next to the waterfall.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Being the good Sim that she is, Adelaide wished to donate some money to charity.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
And with the remaining funds, Noah and Adelaide built a beautiful little house.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Having the security of four walls around you took some getting used to. Adelaide had slept under the stars for so long that it seemed peculiar to have ceilings. And the fireplace- well, that was pretty much heaven.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
It was a shock to the system really- going from nothing to everything, but it wasn't exactly like that. Possessions aren't everything- Noah and Adelaide knew that now. They knew that they could survive if they had to, their past experiences had just made them appreciate this comfort all the more.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
That night, Noah made them a meal in their brand new kitchen. The runaways' life spent homeless hadn't been wasted- they had taught themselves the skills they would need, such as how to cook.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Eating a warm meal for the first time in so long was a wonderful experience.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
And having their very own proper bedroom was just as enjoyable ; )

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
As the couple adjusted to their new home they found themselves doing the same things they always did. Noah got to work planting a garden...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
...Meanwhile Adelaide worked on progressing through the science career, and she was now at level 3.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
As Noah was a handy Sim he came in very useful around the house. The first task he was set was to make all the fireplaces fireproof, cause we all know what happens otherwise.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
He was also able to fix any broken objects, which was convenient as Noah and Adelaide didn't want to get any hired help- they were used to it being just the two of them.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
This meant no maid either.

I'm not sure why he's topless all the time... I'm not perving, honestly...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Noah still worked at the bookstore in the evenings, and as Adelaide was at work during the day he would often invite his mother over to keep him company.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Adelaide also kept in touch with her family, with Laurent visiting the house often.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Ah, there was no reason for this picture expect I thought it was funny x D
She looks like a dirty old man, teehee.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
She even dances like an old man : p

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Anyways, as time progressed Noah's garden grew.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
His relationship with Adelaide remained as perfect as ever...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
...Excusing some strange glitches...

Apparently Adelaide has gone all X-Men and can now put her hands through things 0_0
Ick.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Yes, it was perfection, but Noah and Adelaide decided that perfection wasn't quite right for them- they needed some chaos in their lives. They needed...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
A baby.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
So now Adelaide is pregnant. Will it be a boy or a girl? Will their relationship survive the stress of children? Find out in the next chapter of The Mars Family Legacy, coming soon.
